While most of us finished our last workday of the week and enjoyed our Friday night out with friends and family, a group of around 200 people gathered for Jakarta’s third Startup Weekend, hosted by Grupara VC. Attendees were mainly from Jakarta with a few from Singapore, Bali, Surabaya and other cities.

I went too, and saw more than 20 two-minute pitches; below are the 12 ideas I feel are worth noting. These aren’t real startups yet; they are all still in the early idea stage and we should expect them to evolve, pivot or even shut down as they go through the two days of development and mentorship this weekend.

1. SekolahPD

An app platform that allows trainers and educators to share their educational slides or videos. Users are able to read and watch the contents on the go via their mobile phone.

2. Futsalmatch.com

Those who like to play soccer will know that it is difficult to find enough friends and a good venue for a game. This app allows users to form teams, and find new players and soccer courts to play on.

3. Skymart

People can order groceries through their mobiles via QR codes. These codes come in the form of posters and stickers that will be put at places like bus stops and taxi stands where people wait. When orders are made, Skymart will pick up the groceries and deliver them to customers.

4. Dunia rider

A community website to list, sell, and buy motorbikes and spare parts. The person who pitched it mentioned that there isn’t a good website that is working on this vertical.

5. Dapurcity apps

An app that enables anyone who can cook to turn their house into a restaurant. Home owners will be able to share the dishes they can cook and when can people visit their house via the app.

6. Kampus.co.id

A platform to provide more information about schools in Indonesia. Students will be able to find out more about each university and also update their profiles on the app. Companies can also use the app to head hunt for talents that are still in school.

7. Patungan

It is always a chore to buy presents and share the cost among friends. This is a web app that enables easy sharing of the present’s cost.

8. Bllok

This app will scrape news from the top local news sites and feed news that is targeted to the specific city the reader wants. This enables readers to learn more about the cities they live in or are interested in.

9. Gogetit

An app that enables users to set their goals and share them with people of similar interests. This way, your friends and family will be able to encourage you and work with you until you achieve them.

10. (No name given to it yet, just idea)

An app that helps to share recipes. This content will attract people who are interested in cooking. Besides the recipes, app also will recommend good food around the user’s area. This will provide an avenue for businesses to promote their food.

11. (No name given to it yet, just idea)

A website that can help foreign companies to translate their emails, contracts and videos to Bahasa Indonesia with local help. Locals will be able to earn a substantial amount, and the brands are able to gain speed.

12. (No name given to it yet, just idea)

There are always too many receipts and people often lose them. The aim is to create an app that allows user to collect receipts in soft copy in the app itself. If this can be implemented, it will save lots of time during the purchase process and also, save some trees.

After the pitching, attendees will found people who believe in their idea to form teams and build their apps throughout this weekend. I’m already looking forward to see which of these ideas will come to fruition and be built into a market-ready app.
